Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI) or Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) is a merged exchange from Bursa Efek Jakarta (BEJ) with Bursa Efek Surabaya (BES). For the sake of operational effectiveness and transactions, the Government decided to merge the Jakarta Stock Exchange as a stock market with the Surabaya Stock Exchange as a bond and derivative market to become IDX. The exchange resulting from this merger began operating on December 1, 2007.
BEI/IDX used a trading system called the Jakarta Automated Trading System (JATS) since May 22, 1995, replacing the manual system used previously. Since March 2, 2009 the JATS system itself has been replaced with a new system called JATS-NextG.
In May 2018, BEI/IDX again refined their trading system by using a new system called X-Stream Inet provided by NASDAQ.
The IDX is centered on the Indonesia Stock Exchange Building, Sudirman Commercial Area, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman 52-53, South Jakarta. At present the IDX has a Representative Office spread across 30 provincial capitals in Indonesia.
